Its design allows it to be placed on any veterinary table for quick patient positioning. As it rests on the tabletop, the surgical positioning device maintains patient positioning despite table height or inclination adjustments. The perforated base allows for irrigation during dental procedures. The ropes are covered with rubber tubing allowing for proper disinfection between procedures.
Key Points:
- Tabletop design offers universal fit onto veterinary tables
- Safe, reliable and improved method of positioning for patients undergoing a variety of surgical and dental procedures including brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome (BOAS) corrective surgery
- Optimal intraoral workspace with unobstructed* access to the oral cavity laterally
- Improved surgeon and dentist ergonomics
- Multifunctional (upper airway, oropharyngeal, dental, etc.)
- Perforated base allows for irrigation during dental procedures
- Extremely portable -base and bar detach easily for compact transport
- Easy disinfection
- Rubber-covered rope gag allows for disinfection between patients
- No assistants required -increases staff availability and efficiency
- Reduction of surgical time
- Includes elastic silicone tie to secure the anesthetic breathing circuit

Technical details
- The BOSS is made of medical-grade stainless steel for easy disinfection between procedures.
- The surgical positioning device measures 14″ (35.56 cm) high by 16″ (40.64 cm) wide at the front and 12″ (30.48 cm) wide at the back, and 12″ (30.48 cm) long.
- The BOSS will support loads up to 90 lbs (40 kg) with the 1/8″ (3.175 mm) rope diameter in use.
- For patient safety reasons, it is recommend to use the provided rope gag to suspend the patient’s head by its canines, as is commonly done during BOAS corrective surgery, and to limit weight born on the rope to 30 kg.
- As an easy rule of thumb, a patient’s head usually accounts for 10% of the body weight. For example, a 50 kg dog’s head would weigh 5 kg and would be well within the acceptable load limits of the surgical positioning device.
- The positioning device’s ropes (top rope (30″; 76.2 cm) and bottom rope (24″; 60.96 cm)) are covered with heat-shrink adhesive rubber tubing which are also easily disinfected between procedures.
- The BOSS comes with an elastic silicone tie which allows the anesthetic breathing circuit to be secured to the positioning device maintaining a safe airway access.
*A sterilizable intraoral meshed fabric gag is available for patients who do not have canine teeth to allow sufficient purchase of the rubber-coated rope gag. Please ask your sales representative for more details.
Cleaning
Cleaning, disinfection and sterilization:
The rubber-coated rope gags should be soaked in warm water with enzymatic soap to remove organic debris. The rubber-coated section should be disinfected with any alcohol- or hydrogen peroxide-based disinfectant immediately prior to the procedure. The silicone tie can be cleaned similarly.
The ropes and silicone tie are also autoclavable using normal settings (30 minutes at 121°C (250°F) in a gravity displacement sterilizer. * Sterilization may reduce the ropes’ lifetime compared to washing and disinfection described above.
The base, bar, screws and Allen key are autoclavable. Autoclave chamber dimensions may prevent sterilization in small units. These components can be cleaned with enzymatic soap to remove organic debris followed by any alcohol- or hydrogen peroxide-based disinfectant.
